A rainscreen façade uses more than its visible outer panels to manage rain. Understanding the arrangement behind those panels is essential when reviewing a detail.

Trace the route in section

Mark where rain may enter, how it reaches a drainage surface and where it can discharge. Then examine a window head, a base and a change in level. Does the route still work, or does it end behind a closure? The cavity should be reviewed as part of the selected system, including its fire-safety arrangements.

Make the detail inspectable

Ask for an enlarged drawing at each change in geometry. It should identify the relevant layers and their connections, rather than leaving the installer to interpret a small-scale line.

A practical review exercise is to highlight the intended water path in blue and mark every interruption. Discuss each marked point with the responsible designer. Avoid treating an apparently open gap as proof that the entire wall is adequately drained or ventilated. Verify the system requirements and the installed condition.
