Standards & Guidance

A working map of façade engineering topics across major standard families and jurisdictions. Use it to find the governing documents for a project, then verify the adopted edition and local approval route.

01 / How to use this guide

Compare the subject, not the number

Standards address different things: a product, a laboratory test, a field test, a rating, a design method or a legal requirement. A row below groups related subjects; it does not claim that the listed documents are technically or legally equivalent.

For a project, first identify its jurisdiction and governing code. Then confirm the current adopted edition, scope, specimen, pressure or load, performance threshold and approval authority. Official documents may be paid or licensed. This overview does not reproduce them or replace competent project-specific review.

02 / Global cross-reference

Façade performance matrix

Selected starting points. ISO references provide an international method where relevant; UK/Europe, North America and Australia/NZ often use distinct testing and regulatory systems. Singapore illustrates one national adoption route. Other countries, including Gulf markets, must be checked against their local code and project specifications.

Codes in the table are identifiers, without a fixed edition. Some cited editions may be withdrawn or replaced; check status at the publisher before specifying. New Zealand adoption, US state or Canadian provincial adoption, and Middle East national or municipal requirements can differ substantially.

03 / Regional adoption

Check the local code

A test standard can be referenced within a national or local code, but its adoption and acceptance are set by that jurisdiction. Start with these official code portals, then confirm the authority for the project address.

Canada

The National Building Code is a model code. Confirm provincial or territorial adoption and the referenced editions.

United Arab Emirates

Dubai publishes its Building Code; emirate and authority requirements may vary. Fire and façade approval must follow the local route.

Saudi Arabia

Check the Saudi Building Code portal and the project authority for the applicable building, fire and energy requirements.

India

The National Building Code is a reference framework; confirm state and local adoption and the project-specific fire and envelope provisions.

04 / Decision framework

From reference to specification

01 / Jurisdiction

Find the applicable building and fire codes, local authority requirements, and any adopted national standards.

02 / System and evidence

Define the façade assembly, intended use and the performance evidence needed: calculation, classification, laboratory test, site test or inspection.

03 / Equivalence review

Compare scope, sample size, method, loading, acceptance criteria, edition and certification route. Obtain authority or specialist acceptance where a substitution is proposed.
