Façade engineering short read · Oxley Façades – Façade Engineering Academy

A façade review connects appearance to how the building enclosure will work. A panel may look right in an elevation while its support, drainage or replacement route remains unresolved.

Follow one bay through the design

Start with a typical window or cladding bay. Identify its dimensions, materials, supports and connections to neighbouring construction. Ask which information comes from the architect, structural engineer, system supplier and installer. Record assumptions that another team needs to confirm.

Turn questions into decisions

For a design meeting, bring three specific questions: What carries the loads? Where does water leave? Which connections must accommodate movement? Give each unresolved item an owner and a date. Add thermal, acoustic, fire and access requirements where they affect that bay.

A useful review record shows the drawing revision, the issue and the agreed action. “Reviewed” on its own does not tell the next person what was checked. Work from the actual building, climate and use rather than a generic list of preferred products.
