Façade engineering education in Sri Lanka
Join our international learning community from anywhere in Sri Lanka. Build your understanding of façade engineering through live online teaching, practical technical examples and guided learning.
Build knowledge that shapes better buildings
From Colombo’s glass towers to buildings in cooler upland settings, façades help manage heat, light, rain and wind. Understanding how these systems work opens a valuable area of learning for Sri Lanka’s next generation of built-environment professionals.
Develop the knowledge to read technical details, understand material choices and contribute more confidently to design and construction discussions.

From highland setting to urban façades
We are developing plans for a dedicated institute in the scenic Sri Lankan highlands—a welcoming setting for façade engineering education, collaboration and professional development. The region’s humidity, rainfall, mist, seasonal winds, temperature variation and varied terrain offer a valuable context for connecting building-envelope principles with real environmental conditions.
Our intended approach combines highland observation with technical study and industry engagement, linking environmental performance to contemporary commercial façades and larger construction projects in Sri Lanka’s major cities.

Photographs show regional architecture and scenery, rather than the planned institute.
Connecting observation with practice
Highland environment
Connect classroom principles with real climatic and topographic conditions, observing how the building envelope responds to its surroundings.
Technical learning
Translate those observations into façade design, materials, performance and digital design work, linking building physics to practical technical decisions.
Urban project exposure
Explore how curtain walling, glazing, cladding and façade interfaces come together through construction, coordination and project delivery.
Facilities, opening arrangements and future in-person learning opportunities will be shared as plans are confirmed. Selected technical visits and industry engagement are intended to complement institute-based learning; activities, project access and partnerships will be confirmed as the course develops. Our current offering in Sri Lanka remains live online, alongside learners worldwide.
Discover how buildings respond to climate
The highland environment offers a practical lens on building physics: how heat, air and moisture move through the envelope, and how design choices affect performance and durability. These themes can already be explored through our online teaching; future on-site observation is part of the institute’s developing vision.
Elevation & pressure
Explore how altitude, air density and atmospheric pressure inform façade engineering, glazing and pressure-related design, including sealed glass units.
Humidity & condensation
Connect relative humidity, dew point and surface temperature with condensation, moisture movement, corrosion and the long-term durability of façades.
Wind exposure
Relate seasonal wind exposure to loading, suction, air infiltration, cladding supports and pressure equalisation across the building envelope.
Rain & drainage
Study weather resistance, drainage, joints, cavities and waterproofing, and how these work together to manage moisture and wind-driven rain.
Temperature & insulation
Consider cooler highland conditions and day-to-night temperature variation through insulation, thermal bridging, glazing performance, material movement and surface-temperature behaviour.
Terrain & orientation
Explore how elevation, orientation, nearby slopes and windward or sheltered positions create microclimates, changing building-envelope exposure over relatively short distances.
